Girlguiding Midlands goes Skiing!During February half term 2009, 22 youngsters and 4 leaders set out on a challenge of several train journeys to the wonderful sights of Switzerland. Whilst staying at Our Chalet, one of our World Centres, the girls participated in a fun packed and busy week including activities such as Igloo Building, Snowshoeing, Tobogganing and Snow tubing. The main reason for our trip was that all girls and leaders had the opportunity to learn to ski. And well, there were certainly some very hilariously funny moments on the nursery slopes and as the week developed so did the confidence of all the girls. The fallings had soft landings and the pick ups were by some very understanding ski instructors. But they made it to the end of the week with some massive smiles and some brilliant skiing. The girls were fantastic all week, enthusiasm was oozing and tiredness didn’t seem to kick in. They were a pleasure to take away and were true assets to Guiding and its commitment to widening their skills and opportunities. Well done girls! More photos in the Gallery! !STOP PRESS! I
am organising another ski trip. It is to take place next February half
term (2011) to stay at Kanderstagg hopefully and to include a visit to
Our Chalet. It will involve learning to ski during the week and some |
