Jean OwenHaving been in Guiding for more years than I care to remember, I have worked with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. I have also had involvement with Senior Section during my previous roles as Derbyshire County International Adviser and Midland Region International Adviser. With PR I now work mainly
with Adults but manage to keep in touch by being an assistant leader with
a Rainbow Unit in Derbyshire. |
PUBLIC RELATIONSThe main role of the PR Adviser at Region is to work for the Chief Commissioner in promoting Girlguiding across the Region. In addition support is given to County Commissioners and County PR Advisers in the work that they do locally. As we look to our Centenary celebrations (and beyond) we have a wonderful opportunity. We know how great guiding is and it’s our job to help others to become aware of this. Our role is to inform people in the Midlands about Girlguiding and how it is changing. Trainings can be given to Counties and Division on Project Perception which has introduced leaders to our key messages and which aims to raise the public image of Girlguiding, through media reports, interviews and photographs of our activities. We have a number of girls, young women and leaders trained as Media Spokespeople and they are now available to talk at local and national level. By encouraging the use of the DVD showing our corporate image we can give a united and professional image of Girlguiding across the Midland Region. At the Regional office we have available portable banners and equipment which can be borrowed to help with local events. We can help Counties with Press Releases,
Websites, Photographs, Trainings and any other aspects of PR - all it takes
is a phone call to the Midland Region office. |
