Explore, Thrive and Connect
Do you know what’s involved in being a Trainer? What does an Adviser do? Ever wanted to travel abroad with guiding, but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’re a pro at organising unit activities for your girls, and want to go bigger and better? Do you want to take on more responsibility or gain some new experience, but worried about the clash with work, education or family commitments?
There is a huge array of opportunities open to you in Girlguiding Midlands and beyond; the Explore session will showcase the wide variety of roles you could take on. Whether you have an hour a month or an hour a day available, there’s something out there for you, and this session will give you the chance to find out what’s on offer, and Explore what you can bring to a role, as well as what a role will give you. We aren’t looking for people to sign up for roles on the day, and there won’t be any obligation to commit yourself to anything new; it’s all about hearing about the experiences of others that have taken on roles outside of unit meetings and what they’ve loved and learned in those roles.
At the end of the day, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your County Commissioner, so if there’s something you hear about in the Explore session that you want to find out more about, there’s a chance to speak to the person in the know for your local area! We’ll also be able to signpost you to the right people and places for other opportunities discussed so that you can follow these up at a time to suit you!
Do you ever wonder how your skills and experience gained in work, education or family life could benefit guiding? Have you considered how guiding can benefit you in other areas of your life? Perhaps you already know you’ve got some great guiding experience, but you have no idea how to talk about it in your CV or at interviews? Want to deliver more good guiding but don’t know exactly what you bring to the table?
The Thrive session will help you hone in on what YOU bring to guiding, and what guiding does and could bring to your personal or professional life. It will showcase examples of other inspiring volunteers in the organisation, and you will hear stories and case studies of the journeys they took to get to where they are today, and how their guiding journeys have benefitted them more widely.
This interactive session will use a variety of media to help you learn and develop; you’ll hear from inspirational volunteers of all ages, as well as having the opportunity to consider what you want your next steps to be, and what you need to do or know to get there.
Guiding attracts a huge variety of people, and the 18-35 age group is one of the most varied in terms of the different life-stages its members will be at. You might be just finishing school, embarking on higher education, entering the world of work, starting a family, have a well-established career, have children who are fast-approaching adulthood, considering a career change….the possibilities are endless! Whoever you are, and whatever life looks like at the moment, it’s never too early or too late to be thinking about next steps in your guiding journey.
The fantastic thing about bringing together such a diverse group of women is that we will ALL have something in common, and we will ALL have something we can learn from each other. That’s where the Connect session comes in. You never know what will come from a brief meeting with a like-minded individual!
The Connect session will encompass some group activities and “speed-dating” style brief interactions with other attendees, to give you lots of opportunities to get to know each other and learn about each others’ varied guiding experiences. At the very least, you’ll come away having learnt something about fellow members in your region; hopefully, you’ll make new friends, and you may even meet future colleagues for a project or event in your Guiding future!
INSPIRE 2018 will be a fun-filled and practical day, whatever stage you’re at in your guiding journey. It will be a day of development for all, with a flexible programme that will be relevant to everyone that attends, no matter what your previous level of experience.
