Rewarding. Friendly. Invaluable. Awesome. Just four ways people have described volunteering for Macmillan. We’ve highlighted some of the ways that you can involved.

To take part in any of these opportunities, Leaders simply need to coplete a volunteering form and return it to fundraising@macmillan.org.uk. Leaders will need to supervise girls on the day as per Girlguiding guidelines. For further information about any of these events, or to talk through more opportunities, Leaders can contact Macmillan’s fundraising support centre on 0300 1000 200 or email

Volunteer  at Great Birmingham Run and International Marathon

What is it?

The Great Birmingham Run is now established as the second biggest half marathon in the UK, as the city comes alive with thousands of runners pounding the streets as they tick off 13.1 miles, encouraged by on course bands, entertainment and cheering crowds.

This year the event also includes a full marathon distance starting at Alexander stadium, home of British Athletics. The course will take in a number of the city’s most iconic landmarks before finishing in the city centre.

What’s involved?

Activities you could be involved in include:

·         Marshal the route and cheer on our runners as they pass
·         Hand out refreshments to runners as they pass
·         Be a positive ambassador for Macmillan when communicating with people at the event

When is it?

Sunday 15 October. We will be recruiting volunteers for a morning and afternoon shift, each to be approx. 3hours, long. Estimated start times are 10.30am and 1.30pm.

Where is it?

The event takes place in central Birmingham, our exact locations will be confirmed nearer the date of the event.

How should we get there?

The centre of Birmingham will be closed for the run, so we would suggest public transport or car sharing where possible. Volunteers may have to arrive earlier avoid road closures.

What about refreshments?

Water will be provided. We would advise volunteers to bring their own packed lunch.

How do we get involved?

If you aged under 18 and interested in this opportunnity, please contact your Leader.

Leaders can sign up themsevles and their girls up to volunteer by completing our volunteering form and return it to  fundraising@macmillan.org.uk
