Girlguiding Midlands launch The Macmillan Challenge- a social action challenge to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Girlguiding Midlands is delighted to have formed a partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to help change the lives of millions of people affected by cancer.
A cancer diagnosis can affect everything. Your work, your finances and your relationships; your whole life. That’s why Macmillan provide emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer. There are now more people than ever living with cancer – 2.5 million people in the UK – meaning demand for Macmillan’s services has never been greater.
By participating in The Macmillan Challenge, members of Girlguiding Midlands can make a real positive difference to those living with cancer - if every single member of Girlguiding Midlands raised just £1, between us we would raise £72,000 - enough to fund 2,500 Macmillan Nursing hours. The challenge has three strands of social action – fundraising, awareness and volunteering – with different badges available for each.
Rachel Herrick, Head of Regional Fundraising at Macmillan said “We’re delighted to be partnering with Girlguiding Midlands this year. We hope that members of Girlguiding Midlands enjoy being part of “Team Macmillan”, and encourage them to join us for as many volunteering and fundraising activities in their area to help people affected by cancer in their local communities. As the leading cancer support charity in the UK we’re also able to support members of Girlguiding Midlands to talk about cancer and inspire them to make healthy choices in the future leaving a lasting legacy for years to come.”
Chief Commissioner Abi Salter said “Social action is a core part of the Girlguiding programme and I am thrilled that we have partnered with Macmillan to make a difference to the lives of others and to encourage our members to find out more about the amazing work that Macmillan do.”
The first fundraising activity members are invited to take part in is the Mile for Macmillan. Girls can choose to complete a mile in any way this wish – what’s the most exciting mile they can come up with? Whether they are spacehopping, rollerskating or rock climbing, girls will be having fun while raising money for this worthwhile cause. Fundraising packs for this activity can be downloaded now and you can complete your Mile from any time now until the end of March.
