We are looking for leaders for international adventures in 2019 - including our first ever Region International Community Experience (ICE) and a service project in Serbia.
Anyone who has ever been on a guiding international trip will tell you what a wonderful experience it is; once you have been you will want to go again! The planning and preparation can be challenging and the fund raising can be hard work for the whole group but the extraordinary experiences, the mountain top moments, incredible memories and the enduring friendships are a more than ample reward.
If you would like to be part of a team to lead a Region International Adventure in 2019 then we want to hear from you.
Full details about the 2019 adventures are available below and the application form is also on this page.
Please keep Saturday 24 February 2018 free to attend the selection event in Ashby de la Zouch. The closing date for applications to be received to the Region office is Friday 16 February 2018. People chosen to attend the selection day will be notified by 19 February.
Please contact Teresa Ellis, Region International Adviser, via the Region office if you have any questions.
We are looking for two leaders to help run our 1st ever ICE project.
International Community Experience (ICE) is for Guides aged 11-13. The purpose of an ICE weekend is to give girls a taste of community action, increase their global awareness and prepare them for international experiences.
ICE weekends present a chance for the girls to learn what community action involves, and to explore different communities by talking to local people and getting involved with community links such as the Forestry Commission and other similar organisations.
Those girls who are interested in further community action then have the opportunity to work on a 4 day community project (aka final project weekend). We are looking to go to Ireland and will be working with local communities there, along with having time to do some local sightseeing.
We are looking to take approx. 20 girls aged 11-12 years.
We are looking for approx. 3-4 leaders to lead our service project in Serbia in summer 2019.
Whilst in Serbia, you will undertake a service project with Concordia. Concordia have been working with their international partner, in country to ensure that projects are meaningful and beneficial to the local community.
The partner in Serbia is ‘Young Researchers of Serbia’, who are an active, professional and reliable organisation, giving very positive experiences to their volunteers. Their main aims are environmental protection, environmental education, youth exchange and sustainable development.
The project will be based at Kovilj-Petrovaradin Wetlands. Our group will contribute to the preservation of the wetlands as well as ensuring its continuous visibility towards the general public. The project also highlights the chances for cultural exchange and the group will benefit from learning workshops about the regions endangered fauna and flora.
The daily tasks will vary but in turn be rewarding. Following the service project our group will have the opportunity to explore the area and take in some of the many beautiful sights, including a boat ride along the Danube. All of which will be decided by the group.
