Become a volunteerElise is a runner, writer and all-round outdoors lover. In 2016, she became the first woman and youngest person to run 5,000 miles self-supported around the coast of Britain. This is a journey she was completely unqualified for, setting off with no ultra-running experience and unable to read a map. She managed the feat with the help of several hundred complete strangers, and learnt along the way that you don’t have to be the best athlete or the bravest person to go on a big adventure, you just have to be the one who has a go. Coasting, her best-selling book about the experience, was named as one of The Times Best Sports Books of 2021. She is an ambassador for The North Face UK, Komoot and Suunto and now lives in the Lake District, where she spends as much time outside as possible and is trying to get better at running up and down hills. Her next book, a guidebook of car-free adventures, will be released in 2023 and promotes more sustainable and accessible adventuring.
