Become a volunteerSo I volunteered and applied to be a Co-Compere for the 2017 Wellies and Wristband and had an amazing time! I was so nervous when I arrived as I did not know anyone and wasn’t sure what it was going to entail. Honestly though, it’s one of my favourite Guiding moments I have ever had in my 17 years of being in Girlguiding. So the first day involved going round the site and helping all the teams set up their areas, such as the craft, the spa, the outdoor activity, the restaurant, the security tent and the stage team (where I was). I met the girls who I was sharing a barn room with (Alex, Danni, Rosie, Charlotte and many more) and there was never much sleep going on in that room but I still talk to some of the girls now which is the amazing thing about Guiding.
My first compere experience was ace and it involved going to greet the different units that were coming to Waddow Hall on the coach from the train station and it involved telling them about some of the things they would get up to which was full of the girls asking me who was going to be at Wellies. It also involved co-running the welcomes, introducing everyone who was in charge during the week and co-closing the ceremony at the end of the weekend which was quite emotional and many tears were shed.
My prominent memories are meeting some amazing bands such as Robyn Regan, Yes Lad and Roadtrip (who honestly, I didn’t know who they were but they were all amazing to talk to and get to know). It’s amazing to think that Guiding helped me to do something to get me out of my comfort zone and I found myself dancing the macarena on stage, singing the Wellies and Wristbands song, causing mischief with my co-host Clemy and co-leading ‘Wellies Got Talent’ which was full of amazing talent. I’m someone who enjoys being on the stage and I had an amazing experience and met some amazing people. My highlight, I think, is racing Robyn Regan on the inflatable obstacle course and losing my sock halfway round! It was such a laugh and if anyone is thinking of volunteering for Wellies and Wristbands, then do it, you will not regret it!
