Become a volunteerWhat interested you in becoming a trustee for Girlguiding Midlands?
I’ve been a trustee elsewhere for 8 years and that role was coming to an end. It seemed like a great opportunity to use my skills and experience for an organisation I love.
What skills do you bring to the role?
In my professional life I have developed skills in change management, strategy development, communications, finance and people management (both staff and volunteers). I also bring experience as a trustee in making strategic decisions around property and investments, and monitoring progress against strategic plans.
What is your experience of Girlguiding?
I grew up in Girlguiding in Ulster – I was Bunny (I just about pre-date Rainbows), Brownie, Guide, Ranger and young leader. Those units gave me great opportunities and memories, of camps, sports competitions, travel overseas, skills in everything from ironing to map reading, and of course fun and adventure! I’ve been the unit leader for my local Rainbows for 6 years, and am also a leader with Brownies, Guides and Rangers. It’s such a privilege to see girls grow up through our sections, flourishing in a girl only environment that’s different to school, making friendships, challenging themselves and having a go at all sorts of activities. Making memories at camps and on trips is brilliant whatever age you are!
