I was interested in becoming a trustee for Girlguiding Midlands because I care deeply about the opportunities guiding provides for girls and young women to build confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging. Through my role as a district commissioner, I see first-hand the impact of guiding at a local level, and I wanted to contribute more strategically to support and strengthen the organisation across the wider region.
What skills do you bring to the role?
I bring a strong mix of governance, leadership and communication skills to the role. Through my experience as Chair of Governors, I am confident in strategic thinking, holding leaders to account and ensuring effective oversight.
I also have experience working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, and I’m used to navigating complex situations with professionalism and sound judgement. Alongside this, my role within Girlguiding gives me a good understanding of the organisation at a local level, which helps me contribute meaningfully to wider strategic discussions.
What is your experience of Girlguiding?
My experience of Girlguiding has been incredibly positive. As a district commissioner, I see first-hand the impact guiding has on girls and young women, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills and form strong friendships.
My daughter is also a member of Girlguiding, so I experience the organisation as both a volunteer and a parent, which gives me a well-rounded perspective. I am continually impressed by the dedication of our volunteers and the strong sense of community across guiding. It is a supportive, inclusive organisation that makes a real difference, and I feel proud to be part of it.
A fun fact about you
I have a bit of a busy home life, with four dogs, three pygmy goats and a horse keeping me on my toes.
