There are many reasons for me applying for the Girlguiding Midlands trustee role:
I wanted to make a positive difference to the girls, young women and volunteers by shaping the direction and strategy, to help create a positive environment which develops skills, challenges comfort zones and builds resilience.
I wanted to ensure that Girlguiding Midlands was sustainable and able to offer amazing opportunities like I have had over the years.
I wanted to make sure that Girlguiding is accessible to all by championing equality and inclusivity, ensuring everyone has access to valuable developmental opportunities.
Lastly, I wanted to play a bigger role in a charity that makes a such a tangible difference in the lives of girls and young women.
What skills do you bring to the role?
As a programme director for a day job I am used to leading large and diverse teams to achieve the outcomes required. I am good at planning, organising and directing delivery.
I have a robust background in financial management, risk management, and governance. Give me a problem to solve or an outcome to be delivered and I am very happy.
What is your experience of Girlguiding?
I have been a member for nearly 35 years, starting out at the very first Rainbows unit in my village on the day it opened. Continuing into Brownies, Guides and a young leader. I have been a Brownie, Guide and Ranger leader (sorry Rainbows, but you are a little too small for me), I have my international going away with qualification and been to Ghana, Denmark, Finland, Kenya and I am leading a trip to Switzerland next year. I am also the division commissioner for Rugeley, part of Staffordshire which I have found to be one of the most enjoyable roles to date.
There have been a few other roles too but I don’t want to bore you too much.

I walked 100km around Staffordshire to fundraise for Girlguiding Staffordshire.
