What interested you in becoming a trustee for Girlguiding Midlands?

I’ve been involved with Girl Guides/Girl Scouts for most of my life. When my Brownie unit had to close I was looking for an alternative way to stay connected to the organisation and saw the trustee opportunity advertised. I’ve had trustee and executive experience through my job and felt that becoming a trustee was a good way to use and share those skills.

What skills do you bring to the role?

I have broad executive experience in the Higher Education sector with specialist expertise in STEM and EDI. I am a Professor of Environmental Geoscience with research that focuses on environmental sustainability and climate change that has enabled me to live and work all over the world.

What is your experience of Girlguiding?

I have been involved in Girl guiding and Girl Scouting since I was a Brownie, many years ago then as a Guide, Ranger, young leader, assistant leader and leader with a spell as a Girl Scout leader when I lived in the USA. I have had many opportunities through my involvement with Girlguiding and was fortunate enough to earn both the old and new Queen’s guide awards.

A fun fact about you

I am a qualified yoga teacher.
