The Girlguiding peer education programme enables girls and young women to discuss important issues in an accessible way.
Becoming a peer educator was something I had wanted for many years. To help young people learn about, discuss and develop skills relating to important issues and topics to young people is something I consider a privilege and honour to have done.
I am trained to deliver sessions on all current Girlguiding peer education topics;
- Breaking free – gender stereotypes and how to break free from them
- Think resilient – mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Safe the World – personal safety and personal boundaries
These topics are all things I am very passionate about and have been developed following Girlguiding’s own Girls’ Attitudes Survey research highlighting issues relating to them negatively affecting girls and young women.
Being a peer educator has helped me develop a variety of skills and make a difference to many young people. To reward peer educators for their hard work and giving up their time they have awards; bronze, silver and gold.
I am proud to say I earned my bronze award by delivering 4 peer education sessions.
I cannot recommend being a peer educator enough, it is rewarding, fun and interesting.
