Monday 20th June: Not your normal Earl Shilton Brownies, this week as part of the Midlands Social Action Badge the yellows brought in £1 they earned at home. We split the total amount £28 in two and sent off the first group to the local Co-op for a Special Supermarket Sweep!
You might think it’s a little mad to send 8 yellows off to gather food items, but we had the OK from the shop, laid out the ground rules, took pens & paper to get to target £14 per group. We also had two wonderful parent helpers for the evening.
The whole evening was a success, the supermarket run gathered 21 items and the in-hall sessions highlighted what we were doing, why and what other charities are out there who could be supported. Brown Owl also had another 50 items to donate from a cupboard clear out! All straight in the food bank box in the shop! On top of this, we got some lovely comments from the public on great behaviour and the life skills the yellows for learning/displaying. Very proud Owls.
So, I thought I would share it will you all to spark ideas for your own groups Social Action support this year. We haven’t ever taken these Brownies out of the hall, as everyone of them started after March 2020. I hope this makes you wonder what active you could throw at your units, as you never know how they might surprise you with their hidden skills.
