Going Away with Scheme

Completing my Going Away with Scheme was one of the most rewarding, but challenging, things in my Guiding life!

So I chose to take Brownies on Pack Holiday to complete my Going Away with Scheme, and I decided on an Alice in Wonderland theme.

The Brownies arrived at Tulgey Wood and the first thing they noticed was some ‘Drink Me’ shots (of pink lemonade!). Incredibly, to everyone’s surprise, all of the Brownies turned tiny!! Everyone crawled through the rabbit hole and into an extraordinary wonderland. The Brownies turned into the Clubs, Diamonds and Spades and the leaders turned into Alice, The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat. Everyone then found cookies with ‘Eat Me’ on them, so that they could return to normal size again.

At the beginning of the weekend the Spades, Clubs and Diamonds made name badges and decorated the pack house with pictures and drawings. Throughout the weekend, they also made Hama bead hearts; coloured and embellished wooden heart photo holders; designed keyrings; made bracelets; decorated Mad Hatter hats and everyone made jam tarts.

But unfortunately, the Queen of Hearts stole the tarts!!! So everyone had to use clues on a deck of cards to work out where they were hidden, which they all did successfully. To celebrate, we had a Mad Hatters Tea Party and everyone put on their Mad Hats and the jam tarts went down a treat!

We all watched the Alice in Wonderland film and enjoyed filling in the activity books during the weekend too.

‘We’re late, we’re late, for a very important date’… All good things must come to an end, so we all had to leave the extraordinary world and go home after two nights of adventure and fun. Everyone left through the rabbit hole again and it was agreed that a fabulous weekend was had by everyone.
