Adult social walking weekend 13-15 September 2024

This is a social walking weekend for adults in Girlguiding. Would you like to explore some Lake District hills, fells and mountains, with friendly people to go out with? This is the weekend for you! This is the first social walking weekend we have offered for a long time in Girlguiding Midlands, so please come and join us. There will be a mix of day walks on offer for you to join in with, from lower level walks with a teashop included, to longer walks up bigger hills and mountains. Or you may like to do a walk of your own choice. We hope you will be able to get some log book walks in if you are already involved in the walking scheme, or find out about the scheme, or simply come and enjoy walking with new people.

Cost includes dormitory accommodation with bunk beds. You will need to bring your own sheets/duvet/sleeping bag, pillow and towel.

Please arrange your own transport. If you would like to share your details and arrange shared transport between people coming that would be good, please let us know on the booking form. If you need collecting from Windermere train station, please let us know on the booking form.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the weekend. The weekend is self-catering so please bring your own packed lunch for Saturday and Sunday, and your own breakfasts/eve meals. There is a good kitchen at the house with microwave and oven, plus cooking equipment and mugs/plates/bowls/cutlery etc. We can do a chippy run on the Saturday evening or go to a local pub if you like.

Kit: You will need appropriate clothing for going walking in September, with comfortable, warm and waterproof clothing plus walking boots or shoes. We will be able to share safety equipment between us, but please bring things like a group shelter if you have them. If not don’t worry! Further details will be sent in the joining instructions.

Bookings will close when full or Friday 16 August 2024, whichever is sooner.

Bookings are now closed for this event, thank you for your interest.

Exciting news about our 2024 events!

We are delighted to let you know that we have received some significant funding from Girlguiding to support the transport costs to a few of our 2024 events.

Important!

The final amount we can refund for all of these events will be determined by our final booking numbers, so we cannot give you an exact amount at this point, but wanted to give you a heads up before the closing date, so if you were considering joining the event but transport costs were preventing you from doing so, this may help with those costs and therefore make the event more accessible for your unit.

There will be a per participant (girls and leaders) refund of around £25 per person for each person confirmed as booked on the Girlguiding Midlands event.

Note for this event, if you cancel or reduce your booking numbers after refund has been made to you, you will be expected to return the refund for any reduction or cancellation in full.

If you increase your booking numbers, it is unlikely that we will be able to offer any refund for additional places as all refunds will have been processed.

Festive Journey Through Time

Come and spend a special day at this event just for Rainbows & Brownies and their leaders in our region.

You will able to experience a beautifully festive decorated Black Country Living Museum and find out what a traditional Christmas was like across a number of periods of history.

There will be the opportunity to take part in historical themed activities, engage with characters and hear their amazing stories of Christmas past and of course we’ll have a special visit from Santa.

Ticket update:

We are delighted to have been able to secure an additional 1,000 tickets for the event on Sunday 01 December 2024. Unfortunately, there are no additional tickets available for the Saturday event.

We will reopen the Sunday event booking form on our website at 12pm (midday) on Saturday 05 October 2024 and will close bookings on 21 October or when all places have been filled.

Please note: Those people who were successful when the original booking opened on Monday 30 September, will have received confirmation and payment instructions.

Walk Hadrian’s Wall

This is an 8-day supported walking adventure for  Girlguiding members aged 16+, along the historic Hadrian’s Wall National Trail, stretching 92 miles (148km) from coast to coast across northern England. We’ll start from Bowness-on-Sea in Cumbria and walk to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, visiting the coast at both ends.  Explore spectacular countryside to famous shipyards and industrial heritage. Traverse the UNESCO world heritage site and unlock pieces of Roman history. Along the route you’ll collect stamps on your Hadrian’s Wall Passport, and complete challenges for a limited-edition Girlguiding Midlands Hadrian’s Wall badge.

The trip involves seven days of walking along Hadrian’s Wall. Expect spectacular views and varying undulating terrain. We’ll be walking 12-16 miles (19-26 km) per day in small groups, supported by a team of walk leaders. We’ll stay at a range of accommodation, using our minibus or public transport to access start/finish points for each day. The minibus will transport equipment along the route, and you’ll only need to carry your own day pack each day. Relaxed evening activities will give us the opportunity to get to know each other and explore what the local area has to offer.
