The Three Yorkshire Peaks!!!
In April last year, myself and some friends completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. We completed the challenge to raise money for the charity Cleft – a charity focused on providing permanent, sustainable, ways to improve cleft care in both the UK and overseas. It was a challenge we all really looked forward to completing due to our shared interest in adventurous walks and hikes.
Going in April of course bought in inevitable wet and windy weather, but it made the whole experience all the more fun! We first completed Whernside, which had amazing scenery and stunning views, especially on the walk to get to the base of the peak with lots of fields with animals and baby lambs which were the cutest, giving us lots of joy. Getting to the top felt great and we awarded ourselves with our first Cadbury’s Cream Egg. Our next stop was then Pen-Y-Ghent, both myself and my friend Lara had completed this peak before and so we knew the struggle ahead with the extremely rocky surfaces and routes. We had a long walk to get to this one and our legs were already aching from our first peak but again the stunning views inspired us to power on through. We took our time climbing up the steep side of Pen-y-ghent as the rocks and the steps were getting slippery and were extremely steep. It was hard work to get to the top but the view from the top was amazing and it didn’t take long at the top for us all to treat ourselves to another Cream Egg! Our last peak to go was Ingleborough. By this point it was so incredibly windy and our legs were really aching and so we knew we had to keep up the motivation to complete our challenge. We arrived at the bottom of the peak and did not anticipate the peak to be so steep! We climbed up the side of Ingleborough in the extreme wind which kept causing us to be blown off the path to the floor. And so we came up with a new tactic where we remained sat down as close to the side as possible when the wind picked up. The weather at this point was our greatest challenge but we managed to
battle through the wind to make it to the top, and you guessed it – Cream egg number 3 was devoured.
We were so pleased to have managed to raise a great amount of money and managed to share such an incredible experience completing the challenge together.
