Coronation of King Charles III

On Saturday 6 May 2024 I attended the Coronation of King Charles 3rd.

I was invited to attend a special screening of the service at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey for young people to celebrate the work of youth organisations and their members. I was invited because of my dedication and hard work as a Girlguiding advocate.

The day began at Girlguiding Headquarters, where I had stayed the night before at iCANDO. We set off around 6:15am to Lambeth Palace for breakfast, and to collect our wristbands which allowed us access to Westminster Abbey.
We then walked from Lambeth Palace to St Margaret’s Church, going through airport style security and wristband checks en-route.
When we arrived at the church we sat down and were given our goodie bags containing; an order of service, flag, activity booklet, pin badge, some snacks and a formal invitation to the coronation. We were also able to try on a replica crown, orb and sceptre.

Before the service started the staff did a run through of the history of coronations and what would happen during the service and we watched a short performance by Rapper Guvna B.

We then watched the service on screens and got a shout-out from the Archbishop of Canterbury. We filed out the church and lined the grounds of Westminster Abbey to watch the coronation procession, where we waved at the King and other royals, and the King waved at me.

We then walked back to Lambeth Palace for lunch, and were joined by the Archbishop of Canterbury before walking back to Girlguiding Headquarters to collect our belongings and heading home.
